As a former WordPress developer. Working on both the WordPress project itself as well as developing many WordPress plugins. He was able to give the attendees a view into the future of the popular blogging platform.

Version 2.7

Coming in the future

Backend UI redesign

Due to the number of people who thought the admin page redesign could have been better. The team has decided to rework the UI to be more inline with their users requests.

Upgrade API – themes and plug-ins on the fly

This sounds like a very exciting feature making the managing of updated very easy.

Quick Edit - Inline Editing

Think Dreamweavers inline editing feature.

Improved Comments – Threaded comments

Close comments on Old Posts

Giving users the ability to say comments for posts older than a month old are now closed.

HTTPonly cookies – Javascript security

New HTTP Request API

Press This improvements – Live Blogging

New UI API for plug in developers

Not necessarily for the end user but good to know.

phpDoc – better “in code” documentation

APP Importer – Moveable Type, Typepad, Blogger.

New Default Theme – Based on Sandbox

Beyond 2.7

More Social Network Intergration

While I’m unsure as to the turn out. I am sure that my buddy Tim Spinosi was there and he got to meet Tony Hawk.

You see back in the day. 5 Guys wrote a script for a cartoon called Skate Rats. It was about a bunch of well, skate boarding rats. It was geared towards kids but had enough laughs and pop culture references to keep the older set interested as well. Tim always said that he would put it in Tony Hawk’s hands and yesterday he was true to his word.

Will anything more come of it? One never knows.
